Bass Rod Tips

First of all let me start this off by asking you all how many of you have your Fishing rods just where you left them after your last Fishing Trip?

I will bet most of you said yeah they are still in my rod locker in my boat, from my last summers fishing trip, or have them laying down in the garage.

I am here to tell you that it might not be too late then again it might be too late, go get them out of the boat and put them in your garage or better yet inside.

I know there are a lot of folks out there the boss has put the foot down and said not in my house. They do not match any of the furniture. Your closet may be a good option provided you have a rod rack.

The reason behind this article is I have been over to a lot of my buddies’ houses and seen rods that are bent or have a small curve in them. What causes this is the temperature in the boat goes from hot to cold and if the Rods are laying down, they will warp or have a small curve in them.

A Rod does not need to being laid down or exposed to extreme heat or cold. It will break the rod down. You need to store your Rods standing straight up if possible.

Bass Masters, a couple of month ago, came out with an issue that showed you how to build a Rod Rack for about $45.00 and would allow all your Rods to be kept in one spot and out of the way.

You want to avoid laying the Rods down or stuck in a corner, where something can get pushed against them, then you got a few that are broke.

Come on; look at what kind of money you have invested in them. I know I would hate to say that I had to go buy more Rods just because

I did not take care of them.

Bass Rod Tips For After Fishing:

After every fishing trip, this is what I do to protect my large investment in fishing equipment:

  • Remove the Rods from the boat and wipe them off with warm soap water then dry cloth them. When they are dry, inspect the eyelets and apply a small amount of car wax on them and then wipe the wax off.
  • Before storing them, check the reels to ensure that you have backed off the drag because it is a small felt washer. If you keep the drag set on the reels, next summer when you go to set drag; the washer has been squeezed all winter and will not pop back up.   Now you’re looking at a repair cost or the price for a new reel.
  • Put the reel covers on the reels so no outside dust can get in the reels (Old Socks do very well).

It does not take that long and doing the above bass rod tips will keep your Rods in good shape and will last you a lifetime.

Just a little time spent will give you more time in the Spring to Go get that Hog.
