  • Pea Gravel Flat Bottom: Here is where your depth finder comes in handy. Most of your gravel bottoms can be seen with the naked eye. If you look at the bank, it will tapper off and still be small gravel around points. Watch your graph and when a possible spot is located, it is smart to drop a marker and then come back. While waiting, look for another spot in the area.

I like to pick out three or four spots and by the time I have marked them all I can go back to spot number one. Stay back from your marker and throw a CrankBait, Spinner Bait, Worm, or even the Top water bait.

Find the Sweet Spot and work it over with everything you got tied on to your rods.

I will let you know that if you find the Pea Gravel sweet spot location at PickWick Lake in Tennessee and you're there in the spring time before the water reaches 72 degrees; you will have some of the best Small Mouth fishing anywhere in the country. That is the time of the year they (lay eggs)Spawn. To me, they fight better than any Large Mouth that I have ever caught.

I promise you'll have a lot of fun using any of the above methods at your favorite lakes and see if you do not start catching some of my Hogs that I talk about and show here on my web site.
The only thing that I ask is Please practice Catch and Release.

Take a picture and measure the fish length wise and around the belly then turn it loose for another battle another day. I have seen replicas made from the picture taken that look better than the real fish.

Keep The Hooks Wet!
