How To Make Your Own Fishing Honey Hole
I know this is a bad time to bring this up, but how many of you threw away your Christmas tree after Christmas?
Not this kid, I am always
thinking of how I can make this year’s fishing more fun and bigger fish.
What I do is about January
2nd is start driving around and collecting all of the spruce trees (small) ones that I can get my hands on. I ended up with eleven
this year.
What I do is leave them out
to dry to lose most of the leaves, all I want is the trunk and limbs. I hear some folks burn them, but I tried that once and lost the whole
tree.
I get some concrete cider
blocks and rope and drill a hole in the base big enough to slip the rope through the hole. I like to use about four feet of rope or chain. You
know the type that goes on your kid’s old swing
set.
If I use the chain, I come by
some horseshoe nails to attach it to the tree and a small
bolt and nut at the concrete.
Ready For The Water:
Now, the trees are ready for the water; I pick out the spots that if I were a fish where I would go and feed.
I must tell you now about
where to place the trees, do not put them in where they could get a current, because when you come back to fish that spot the trees are gone
and have been swept off with the current.
My favorite spot is to put
them just inside a cove that I visit a lot. I put three in each spot at least 3 feet apart. I try and make a triangle with them. That way if
you are fishing a tournament, you and your partner have a fair shake at catching your limit.
This is hard to believe but I have done this returned three days later and
caught fish off the trees. The trees attract bait fish and bait fish attract the bass hogs.
Make sure you mark your map
or go to the bank and leave some kind of marker to remember the exact location.
