Shaky Head Fishing Rig Setup
Anglers I know that you have heard or saw the Shaky Head Jigs used by the
Pros and saw how they won a tournament using the Shaky Head Rigs.
Question: What is a Shaky Head?
The best description of a Shaky Head would be:
A jig head with a worm or some other flexible lure on it, when the jig head
sinks to the bottom, the tail of the lure, such as a worm will Float. This is
important that you choose a soft plastic that will float. This will allow for
the tail to float upwards, then you jiggle the bait gently, which will cause
the jig to jump, hop around.

This will allow you to hit the tiny crevices that normal Texas Rig worm might
miss, while the tail is twitching, and jiggling, that will generate or attract
the attention of
MR. BASSHOG.
If you do not get a bite after a few minutes move the Shaky Head two or three
feet and start the process again. What I like to do is cast it behind the boat
and count it down to the bottom and then slowly drag it back to the
boat.
Let's Get Our Equipment Check
List:
- Rod - I recommend a spinning rod with Medium action 7 foot
- Reel - open face spinning reel I use the Bass Pro Shops Pro Qualifier Spinning Reel

- Line - 8 pound Berkley big game in the moss color
- Jig Head - 1/4 to 1/8 football or round
Bait - 4 inch floating worms (netbait has some good ones)
You want a jig head that has a tie on at an angle to the hook, like the
picture that I have provided. The rig that I have shown you has about a 45
degree angle from the hook. I like using the ones that have the little spring
that I can feed the worm up on it then run the hook all the way through the
worm and then back the point back into the worm. This might save your rig from
getting hung up and having to re-rig. You will also notice I like using the
football jig heads, but the round heads are fine also.
If you are not sure if the worm or lure will float, hook it up to the jig head and
try it at home in the sink.
This has become the most popular way to fish, because it works when all the
things that you have in your tackle box fail you. The weather does not effect
this type of
fishing, and even on heavily pressured lakes it will surprise you.
The great part is it will not break the bank if you want to get the Shaky Head Worm Starter Kit found at most of your Fishing big stores like Bass Pro or Gander Mountain. In fact, I just ordered more jig heads and
more worms in different colors.
Remember, listen to what the fish are telling you and stop and
think, the fish are so use to seeing those 7, 8, 10, and 12 inch worms, they
just might want a 4 inch snack.
Most of all do not forget the Smelly Jelly to smear on the worms. I promise you
that it wins every time and BassHogFishing Stands behind this
product.
Let me know what you think and how many fish you catch.
