Small Pond Bass Hog Fishing In July

Tired of laying around the house and knowing the recent heavy rains had washed bugs and worms into the area ponds, I headed out to a favorite small pond thinking it might be a great day for some hog hunting.

With the sky a little over cast, July 26th around 1:30pm turned out to be my day.

Bass Fishing For Hogs In Small Ponds

I found this female in the middle of a tree using a Bass Pro Squirmin Ring Worm (June bug).

I threw it just beyond the tree and slowly hopped it back to the tree letting it settle in the middle of the tree. It only took one wiggle and she ate it.

I set the hook and low and behold I not only got her, but the Tree also, and I knew I had a hog when I set the hook.

She had managed to wedge herself in the tree and I was afraid that This one was determined not to be landed without a fight

Wrapping a ball point pen around my Power Pro, I slowly started backing up. All of a sudden the tree gave and I was sure that I had lost her, when I noticed my line
moving to the right.

I proceeded reeling her in and that is when she broke water and did a little dance for me and my buddy.

After landing her, I was sorry I did not have my scale to weight her, but just by the picture she is considered a BassHog.

The temp of the water was about 86 degrees and the air temp was hugging 90 degrees.

I must be thankful that I spread the Smelly Jelly on the worm. I am sure that is what got this hog, and my buddy is logging on to my site to buy some. I sold him on it considering the rest of the afternoon produced a lot of bass using the Smelly Jelly, but no more Hogs.

This is another good example that Basshogfishing is always out on some kind of water looking for those hogs.

Keep The Hooks Wet!
