Take a Kid Fishing

I was working at Walmart in the Fishing and Hunting Department a couple of years ago and the quest for an idea to tie in with a Sale on Fishing items came up to improve our sales.

The more I thought about it the more I thought my idea to have a “Take a Kid Fishing” contest would be a great way to introduce kids to the great fun of fishing in a bass boat and help to create a stronger life long bond between child and father.

I went to the department and the Store Manager with the idea of making a contest that the winner would go out on the lake with his or her Dad for a day of Fishing in a Bass Boat, something that just does not happen around our part of the woods.

Instructed by the store manager to layout and implement my ideas, I got busy making sure the contest was a success by seeing which companies might want to get involved by donating fishing equipment as prizes for the contest winner.

All this was going on at the end of hunting season and I knew the fishing folks were getting cabin fever.

I made up signs stating that we were going to have a drawing in the spring and what was going to happen.

The great company of Strike King offered to donate Lures for the winner and his Dad. Pure Fishing also chipped in a Rod and Reel to the winner of the Drawing, along with Lures.

I also arranged to have my Bass Boat brought into the store and placed right in front of the Sporting Goods Counter.

As Spring was almost on us, we set the date for the drawing and all was in place, except for one small problem.
