Top Water Bait Bass Hog Fishing
Many of your Bass
fishing people begin casting Surface Baits in the spring, once the water temperature tops the 65 degrees. This does not always hold true. The
bass can start earlier or later depending on what part of the country you’re located.
This will go along
with the Post spawn period, the time when Bass are leaving the beds and putting on the feed bags or what they call active feeding. The top
water bite normally will continue throughout the summer and fall until the water again starts to drop back to 60 degrees.
Again I must state
there are exceptions; I have caught big fish when the water temp was at 45 degrees. Go back to my website and read about the Bass Talking To You. They will let you know what they want and when they want it. I have even heard guys
catching big Hogs in the middle of a snow storm.
Where You Should Use A Top Water Bait:
Use top water bait
around shallow cover. Bass love hanging around shallow cover like weed, rock, and wood. In big lakes and ponds, you can tease the Bass into
striking the Top water Bait and that is sometimes called a reaction strike.
When a Bass hears all
the noise that you’re making on Top of the Water, he will investigate what is making the noise if you repeat your cast to the same
spot.
On Main Lake Points
because Bass will hold (Suspend) off the points under Stumps/Humps/Drop Offs and lay in waiting for some small bait fish to come by and then
explode on it.
In the Summer time
when the bait fish start to school, the bass will follow and they will be in large numbers chasing the bait fish. We call that a feeding
frenzy.
